New Family Member...

Don't get too excited... its another dog! Now that we have a house and a backyard we wanted to get a "big" dog. I had been going to the SPCA to search out for a Golden Retriever that needed rescuing. I didn't have any luck. After a few months of looking and finding no golden's,  I was walking out of the shelter and overheard a conversation. An elderly couple had found a dog on the highway, she was almost hit by a car so they snatched her up. They put an ad in the paper trying to find her home, or any home for that matter. After 3 days they brought her into the SPCA, but the lady at the front desk said the SPCA was full and they could not take any more dogs at this time. The couple seemed upset because they were unable to keep her or find her a home. They didn't want to put her down, so has soon as I heard "put down" I yelled out "I'll take her!" The SPCA worker seemed shocked and said "Wow, what great timing." So I took her home and she has become a great addition to our family. She is sooo sweet and just wants to cuddle all the time. However... we just got grass in our backyard after months of dealing with dirt, and shes a digger! I have giant holes all over my backyard. So if anyone knows how to handle that - I'd love some advice.  But she's so beautiful and sweet I can't part with her. We named her Maggie and its weird how you can tell that she is grateful to have a home. Dogs are so great, aren't they?

This rug you see... yeah- she chewed sections of the green part up! I think she still has some puppy in her.

 

So that is the story of how Maggie came to be a Hearron. =)

My Prize is In and My Pups are Happy...

The day is off to a good start. I received my very first blogging prize: a  new doxie pillow made by Roeshel from one of my all time favorite blogs, The DIY Show Off.  She is a fellow mini-dachshund lover, and has come up with the cutest little doxie design pillows. She even had a doggie parade on her blog, and my pups Rocky and Sadie Bella had to join. I was excited to find this on my door...

Mail... for ME! I love getting packages, it feels like Christmas every time.

Puppy + Starfish = Love

I have this starfish on a pile of extra fabric on a bookshelf in my dining area and Rocky can not get enough. Its been an issue. He is in love with this starfish. He jumps up when we are not looking and hides it. I really like where I had it, so I was determined to train him not to take it. Its not working. I must move the starfish to a higher place. Its like it's his baby, he protects it under all circumstances. It cracks us up.

$1 Robins Egg Water Dish

I was at Salvation Army the other day and found this great little piece of pottery stamped "Santa Anita Ware" Made in California. It is the prettiest blue with brown little speckles just like a robins egg. And nothing is ever "made in California", so that was awesome - hey I've gotta support my home state.
Since it was only $1, it came home with me.

I googled "Santa Anita Ware" and found the following info on this site: "Santa Anita Pottery began around 1939 in Los Angeles, California and ceased operations sometime in the late 1950s/early 1960s. I have pieces from eight of their patterns. For some reason, this manufacturer is harder to find."

I doubt its worth much, but it was fun to find out some background on the maker.

























I keep my dogs food and water outside, but I figured this could be their inside water dish.


I think Sadie likes it... even though she looks totally sad and depressed in this picture. Soo cute.

Womans Best Friend

I got my first dog when I was about to turn 22 years old. Growing up I wanted a dog so bad! I would find strays and bring them home, name them, feed them hot dogs and plan a perfect time to beg my parents to keep them! The one I remember the most was "Snowball" I was probably 8-10 yrs old and he was a yellow/white lab...? I tied him up to the tree in the front yard and played with him for a while until I went inside for a planned "I want a dog" intervention on my mom. My family were not fans of animals at the time. My mom thought he would dig up all of her rose bushes and poop all over the yard and I wouldn't clean it up. Little to say, we didn't get to keep snowball or any other dogs after that.
After I graduated college I got I was able to move get my own apartment all to myself. Soon after moving in I realized... I'm not at my parents house, I'm not in a dorm, I don't have roommates..... I CAN GET A DOG OF MY OWN! So I searched high and low until I found the perfect little puppy. Sadie! She is my little girl. Its amazing how much you can love a dog, I can't imagine how much parents love their children! About a year later a got Sadie a friend and of course he had to be a boy (my husband -fiance at the time) wanted a MAN DOG! So along came Rocky to join the family. He's about twice the size of Sadie, but she is definitely the boss.
If any of you have great pictures of you with your dogs or just the puppies by themselves, send them in cuz I would LOVE to see them. Maybe I could do a doggie montage. =)
