DIY: Robins egg chalkboard shelf
I found this knotty pine shelf mirror on craigslist for $20. I took a before picture and somehow it got deleted from my computer and it was too late because I had already started the project. Bummer! But I DO have a picture of what the color of the wood looked like. I took a picture of the back where the makers of the mirror engraved their names and year into the wood...
I taped up the glass mirror section and then hand painted robins egg blue with a dry brush effect with some wood showing through, so it looked a little bit distressed.
Once the paint was dry I used some bags to protect the paint and taped up the edges...
And got to spray painting the chalkboard paint onto the mirror section.
I know some people might think AHHH its just gonna scratch off. And maaaaybe it will- but I did about 5 coats and am just going to use chalk on it. Its not getting a lot of traffic.
I found this picture on Nancy's blog a few days after I made this. They're cousins!
I left it alone for about a week, then hung it up. I found a quote online that was WRONG! It said "Wine is constant proof the God love us and love to see us happy", but I was quickly corrected when my husband saw it. He changed it to what Benjamin Franklin actually said, Beer - not wine.
Whoops.

ReplyDeleteI know a few people who would love that quote. :) I love the robin's egg blue color too! We have a 1950's house that we are fixing up so I can't wait to read more through your blog to see how your home is progressing. It's kinda fun fixing up an old house, isn't it? Our taste is way to expensive for our tiny budget too!
