I made it out alive

I love Ikea, but that place can really do some damage on your wallet and nerves if you let it. There are just soo many people and none of them seem to be watching where they are going. Although I understand... they are preoccupied by all of the wonderfulness to gawk at. I made the 1 1/2 hour trip to ikea a couple weeks ago to pick up a piece of  butcher block for my kitchen counters. Remember when I was wanting to do butcher block in this post? I decided to get going on it. I will start with just one side of the kitchen, the side that only has a small 43" section of counter top. After we get our tax money manybe I will finish the main side, and get a new sink. (Keeping my fingers crossed). I will show you more of the project later on. I just wanted to show you my ikea score. I was amazed to find that they have a fabric section! Who knew? Not me. They had a section that was 75% off! I purchased some  panels that were already hemmed on each side. I turned it into two table runners. I also got some white organizing boxes for our office room and a few plants. Whew. I think I did good. I was so tempted to keep on shopping, but I held back. Kudos for me. That is a toughy at Ikea.

  1. I know what you mean about Ikea!! It's funny I used to shop there a lot many years ago then I got burned out and my style changed. Now i'm headed back to Ikea! Great prices and vibrant fabrics gotta love it! Can't wait to see what you do with the counter top- make sure you shut the dishwasher before you take any photos this time! ;)

  2. Love Ikea!! I went there a lot when I lived in Phoenix. Unfortunately, there aren't too many in the Midwest. :(

  3. I'm totally with you on Ikea! I go in there and I get so distracted that I end up leaving with 3 times as much as I went in there to buy! I recently bought about 4 yards of one of their cute black and white fabrics and made tons of stuff with it. You can get great fabric there for like a dollar a yard sometimes. So excited to see the finished butcher block counter...I love that look!

  5. IKEA is a big trip for us, too. We like to show up before they open, have some breakfast and then get what's on our list and get out! And I always have to stop by the clearance section - I have scored some fantastic deals there :)

I want to see you butcher block in stalled!

  6. really looking forward to hearing how you like the counter - that is the one i've had my eye on over at IKEA and am just trying to work up the energy and nerve to get going on it - assuming all this drywall dust doesn't kill me first (i head tomorrow is the last sanding day and then on to spraying that texture stuff - ugh - hope it doesn't smell too bad!)

  7. Hi there, love the idea of a wooden counter! I'm thinking about creating an island out of an ikea counter. Which one do you have? http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/categories/departments/kitchen/10472/
